I bought a pair of shoes last night which were partially inspired by this post. They're PF Flyers and they're part canvas, part leather, and of course part rubber. Here are the shoes and me.

On a side note: I have a few reasons for buying these shoes. The first is the obvious reason which is just that I like them. They're comfortable, light weight, and I like the way they look. The second reason is Greg Brown.
Some of you may know that Greg Brown is a singer/songwriter with a deep gravelly voice and great lyrics. He gives me a sense of nostalgia for things I've never known.
Anyway, in one of his songs he has the following verse which instantly popped into mind when I saw the maker of the shoes:
"A little creek you could spit across
Jimmy and me each took one more toss
our spinners bright in the evening air
People always said, There ain't no fish in there
Well grownups they ain't always right
Jimmy and me walked home slow that night
right down Main Street in our P.F. Flyers
with two 5 lb. bass making grown men liars
So there you have it. It was a done deal and the salesman had no idea what hit him.
If you'd like your own P.F. Flyers you can find them here.
